GRADING POLICY
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS
Formative assessments are a way to check an individual's understanding during the instructional process before he or she is penalized with points. By using formative assessments, teachers can more easily adjust lessons to address individual and group needs. In addition, each student has a clear understanding of what he/she needs to study in order to master the skill and perform well on the summative assessment. At least one formal formative assessment will be given prior to each summative assessment and will be recorded in the gradebook using the scale below:
P-Proficient: All information is correct to a high level
S-Satisfactory: Minor errors that do not interfere with main concepts.
U-Unsatisfactory: Concept missed; remediation needed
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS
Summative assessments are like tests; they are given at the end of the instruction of a learning goal. Prior to taking a summative assessment, students will have multiple opportunities to practice through informal and formal formative assessments. Because of this, summative assessments are graded for points.
RETAKE POLICY
Students are eligible to retake assessments as long as they have completed the homework and practice activities leading up to the summative. If a student would like to retake an assessment, he/she must follow the retake policy outlined on the document below.
* Students who do not complete homework and practice activities are not eligible to retake an assessment.
* Students who do not complete homework and practice activities are not eligible to retake an assessment.
